Deepdale, which has been the home of Preston North End FC since 1875, currently has a 22,250 capacity. There are plans to develop the stadium so that it can accommodate 30,000 fans.
Preston North End were founder members of the Football League and were the first League champions. England legend Tom Finney spent his entire career at the club.
Deepdale also houses the National Football Museum, which was opened in 2001. The Museum is an independent charity which owns several major collections and has acquired on long-term loan The FA, Football League and Wembley collections. Over 1,000 items are on display at any one time.
Other places of interest in Preston include Harris Museum and Art Gallery and the British Commercial Vehicle Museum.
Preston, which is the administrative capital of Lancashire, is the largest and most important commercial centre in the county.
Awarded city status in April 2002, Preston’s economy is largely based on traditional manufacturing industries such as textiles and engineering.
Preston's history dates back to the Doomsday Book and to 1179 with the granting of the Charter, which gave the right to hold a Guild Merchant every 20 years. The "Once in a Preston Guild" tradition continues to this day and the next one is in 2012.
The restaurant 'Bistro French Live' was featured in the Guinness Book of Records as having the widest selection of wines and spirits in the country. They also have a liquor dating from the 1700's.
