England captain Faye White has praised the Three Lions' performance against Denmark.
'We've got to be positive'
By Matt Hale. Thursday, 09 June 2005.
Despite suffering a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Denmark, England captain Faye White applauded her team-mates for a ‘first class’ performance.
Having looked destined for the Semi Finals courtesy of a coolly struck Fara Williams penalty on 52 minutes, England suffered the agony of conceding late goals to Pedersen and Sorensen as Denmark snatched victory.
Whilst disappointed with the way the match had ended, Faye emphasised that England were still very much in the tournament.
"To be so close to the Semi-Finals and then to come out of the game with nothing is massively disappointing," she said.
"But the team performance was first class - we proved we can perform.
"You could see by Denmark’s reaction after - they were so happy to win that because they knew they were a bit fortunate."
So what can the England skipper take into Saturday's crucial showdown with Sweden?
"We’ve just got to be positive - if we show those same energy levels, pressurise as hard and keep doing the things we were doing right, then who knows.
"They are a massively experienced side and very good but I think they’ll fear us after that performance.
"If we can go in and everyone do their jobs and win our individual battles then who knows what can happen."
