Denmark captain Katrine Pedersen, who in 2003 helped Fulham win the domestic treble, is aiming to use her expertise on English football to bring about the downfall of Hope Powell’s team when the two sides meet in Women’s Euro 2005.
Pedersen played alongside midfielder Katie Chapman, full back Rachel Unitt, central defender Mary Phillip and winger Rachel Yankey at Fulham, at the same time facing most of the other England players in the FA Nationwide Women’s Premier League.
She was part of the Denmark team which lost 2-0 to England at Fratton Park 16 months ago, but now she is set on a revenge victory that would put the Danes in a good position to qualify for the Euro semi-finals.
The 28-year-old central defender said: "I’ve been talking to colleagues about players I was with at Fulham, speaking to the full backs for instance about preparing to play against Rachel Yankey.
"My knowledge of the England players might be a bit of an advantage and hopefully it can be of some help in our preparations. I’m looking forward to playing against them, but I know they are all good players and it’s going to be a hard match.
"The last time we played against them we didn’t do well but this time we have to - we want the three points because it’s our target to reach the semi-finals at least."
Pedersen’s coach Peter Bonde is in confident mood after his team held group favourites Sweden to a 1-1 draw in their opening group match, the result leaving the Danes and the Swedes in joint second place behind England following the 3-2 win against Finland.
"I was a bit disappointed not to beat Sweden," said Bonde, "but if we were given beforehand a 1-1 draw with them to start the tournament we would have settled for that so it’s okay.
"England had their ups and downs against Finland, but they have excellent players like Rachel Yankey and Karen Carney. And [Kelly] Smith in the middle – we hope she doesn’t last too long!
"They are very good in offence and they are physical, strong in defence and we have to be prepared for a physical game.
"England will have extra heart, playing on home ground, but we are confident. I think we can win the tournament, but other teams can too - women’s football in Europe is very even and if you have a bad day, you can be out."
