Oddly, these nations have never met in a UEFA European Championship match, but it is far from their first competitive encounter.
Dutch medal
Meeting No1 came in the first Olympic tournament in 1908 - and was for a bronze medal. Both had already lost to the hosts, the United Kingdom, but Sweden were given a passport to meet beaten semi-finalists the Netherlands as France had pulled out. It was the Dutch who claimed the medal, 2-0.
Swedish revenge
Indeed, the Netherlands and Sweden met in the first four Olympic tournaments, also playing in 1912, 1920 and 1924. Sweden took until a 1924 replay to win, taking a bronze medal always previously won by the Dutch.
Honours even
There has only been one competitive meeting since, 50 years on from the previous encounter they met in the 1974 FIFA World Cup group stage. They drew 0-0, but both progressed.
Close record
Even their friendly games have seen little to choose between the game, leaving the Dutch 8-7 up in wins in their 18-match history. The 19th meeting may not have an Olympic medal at stake, but the rewards on offer are still immense.
