46' Makaay (in) - Overmars (out) (Netherlands)
- The second half begins.
- Portugal leave the field to a rousing reception from the home fans after a half they dominated. Ronaldo scored the only goal so far, heading home unmarked from a corner, but Portugal could have had more: Figo hit a post and Van der Sar reacted sharply to keep out a Pauleta effort. At the other end, the Netherlands have not forced Ricardo into a save, but Van Nistelrooij did put the ball in the net from an offside position. That should act as a warning against any Portuguese complacency.

28' Overmars (Netherlands) misses the target. An excellent opportunity to hit back immediately goes begging, as Overmars hits a rising volley narrowly over the crossbar from a tight angle 12 metres out. It is encouraging for the Dutch, who will be looking to get on level terms as soon as possible.
27' Ronaldo (Portugal) is cautioned by the referee. The scorer is penalised for taking off his shirt during his goal celebration.
26' Ronaldo (Portugal) scores! A simple goal by winger Ronaldo, who scores from a free header seven metres from goal. It is a carbon copy of the goal he scored as a substitute against Greece in the opening game, taking advantage of non-existent marking to take advantage of the corner he earnt himself.
26' Deco (Portugal) delivers the corner. Ronaldo taunts Reiziger and forces a corner.

10' Miguel (Portugal) gives away a free-kick following a challenge on Davids (Netherlands).
10' Deco (Portugal) takes the corner. The best chance of the game so far caps off a magnificent move which Ronaldo begins in his own half. He passes to Deco, who finds Luís Figo on the right touchline. The Portugal captain curls a wonderful ball to the near post and the onrushing Ronaldo is inches from connecting. The ball is cleared for a corner, which comes to nothing.

- The match is under way.
- Dutch coach Dick Advocaat has shuffled his pack, replacing injured captain Frank de Boer with the impressive Wilfred Bouma at centre-back. Advocaat has also dropped Andy van der Meyde, and replaced the right-winger with Marc Overmars. Michael Reiziger sees off the challenge of John Heitinga and starts at right-back. Ruud van Nistelrooij is once again the lone striker, having scored four goals in his previous four games. He needs one more to tie with the tournament’s top scorer, Milan Baroš of the Czech Republic.
- Portugal believe that they can reach their first major final thanks to coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, the Brazilian whose tactical substitutions helped secure wins over Spain and England. Of the six goals Portugal have scored, five have come from substitutes. Scolari’s side has one change from the team that started the quarter-final against England, as Pauleta returns from suspension to take the place of Nuno Gomes, out with an ankle injury. Captain Luís Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo also start for the hosts.
- Good evening and welcome to the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon for the first UEFA EURO 2004™ semi-final, between hosts Portugal and the Netherlands. Both sides were losing semi-finalists from UEFA EURO 2000™, and both won penalty shoot-outs in their respective quarter-finals last week. The Netherlands have only beaten Portugal once in eight attempts, in a EURO ’92 qualifier in Rotterdam. Their last encounter was a 1-1 draw in April 2003.
