With two more matches still to play, Sven says that the Three Lions can pick up six points to reach the quarter-finals

"We have to win two games against Switzerland and Croatia and I think we can do that," he said.

The defeat in Lisbon came as a huge blow to England.  With a 1-0 lead moving into stoppage time, Sven's men looked to be heading for the top of the group, but Zinedine Zidane's majestic double put France in pole position.

"We played extremely well against the world's best football team," he said. "Now it's up with the heads.

"Let's hope we can play France on 4 July. We can't have bad luck always."

He added: "We thought we had the game won and we should have won it.

"You can never control France because they have so many attacking options, but in the 90 minutes they did not have many goalscoring chances."

"We must be proud, it's tough to lose - we did not deserve to lose."

The Swede says England must now look on the positive side and respond against Switzerland on Thursday.

"We were very unlucky," he said. "We played a good game tactically and in the last 10 minutes we controlled it.

"They were out of ideas and they had some shots from distance but they never came in behind our backline. I thought we had won but it was an illusion.

"Now it is on to the next game. We must overcome this very quickly and look for a new performance."
