  • England celebrate penalty victory over Holland

A visit to the zoo helps the team relax in Augsburg.

Another early start to the day today, the meeting last night gave us a heads up for today’s session - we were playing some 11v11 match play versus each other using the time to practise different defending strategies to prepare us for tournament football.

This match was really productive as everyone played really well and maintained a very high tempo despite the 30+degree heat. After the run-out we had some time to work on our individual objectives, which we have done throughout every session. This means all the girls can focus on specific aspects of their games that we wouldn’t do in a whole group session. Everyone finds this really helpful.

After training it was back to the hotel for some lunch and recovery. Mo called a quick meeting following lunch, it turns out that she had noticed that Shelby was late for training (Shelby thought she had got away with it!) and so had to do a forfeit…

In the afternoon we had a team outing to the Zoo in Augsburg. The heat was scorching, so the Doc made sure we were covered in sun cream. Everyone had plenty of energy to laugh at the rather ugly monkeys and rhinos doing their business. Gilly made a very intelligent comment when she stated how tall the Giraffes were!

Despite the elephants, monkeys, rhinos, snakes etc, Chelsea found the sheep most fascinating, in fact so much that they joined in the synchronised ' Baa baa baa' which locals and zookeepers found a little strange to say the least!

All the fun was rounded off with an ice-lolly (although it was called a lolly-ice by some??), then we got back on the coach and headed to the hotel for a technical meeting on the morning session.

Later that night we had dinner at a local Italian restaurant. Kay (Cossington) was lucky, as it was her birthday today!
