A Nikita Parris goal defeats Finland in opening Euro qualifier.
A second-half goal from Everton’s Nikita Parris gave England a winning start to their final round of Euro qualifiers.
The Young Lions hosted Finland at Scunthorpe United’s Glanford Park and totally dominated proceedings throughout, registering over 20 shots at goal.
They had to wait until just after the hour mark for the only goal of the game, though, and it came from Parris – her ninth goal in ten U19 games.
Next up for Mo Marley’s side is Wales at Lincoln City’s Sincil Bank on Monday evening, followed by Austria at Blundell Park on Thursday.
Wales beat Austria 2-0 in the day’s earlier game. Only the top-placed team will make it through to the European U19 Championship Finals which are being staged in Turkey in the summer.
England won this title for the first-ever time in Belarus in 2009.
