England continued their good form in Europe with a 3-2 win against hosts Sweden in Vasteras on Monday evening.

After beating the Republic of Ireland on Saturday, Mo Marley's side took another convincing step towards qualifying for this summer's Finals, where they hope to defend the title they won last year in Belarus.

They had to come from behind though as Sweden took an early lead only for Toni Duggan to cancel that out in the 17th minute and then put the Three Lions ahead by half-time with a goal in the 37th minute.

The Swedes found an equaliser after the break and it looked as though a draw was the most likely result, until Demi Stokes popped up with an 82nd minute winner.

England will now face Turkey in the final game on Thursday, knowing that a win will be enough to take them through.

England: 1 Rebecca Spencer, 2 Lindsey Cunningham, 3 Gilly Flaherty (18 Rebecca Jane, 63) 5 Shelby Hills, 6 Gemma Bonner (4 Abbie Prosser, 46) 7 Isobel Christiansen, 8 Jordan Nobbs, 9 Toni Duggan, 10 Jess Holbrook (15 Jemma Rose, 89) 11 Demi Stokes, 14 Laura Coombs.

Substitutes not used: 13 Lauren Davey, 12 Stephanie Marsh, 16 Naomi Cole, 17 Lauren Bruton.

  • Well done to the Lionesses, a BRILLIANT performance in a bruising encounter which saw 2 of their defenders taken off with concussion. The 2 STRIKERS who filled their boots did a fantastic job in holding things together aty the back! What a FATASTIC record the U19s have in Europe....they should be mentioned in Sports Personality of the Year in the Team of the Year category....what is it now about 20 games undefeated with a run of 10 games without conceding a goal sandwiched in the middle.....which other team could boast that!!!! And well done the FA for the prompt report this timeBy Johno (37 months ago)
