Finals place eludes Young Lions

England lose 1-0 to Switzerland in Euro qualifier.
England failed in their attempt to qualify for the Finals of the UEFA European Women’s U17 Championship after falling to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Switzerland.
Lois Fidler’s side knew they had to beat the Swiss and rely on Belgium taking points off of Iceland in order to top the group, but a Sabrina Ribeaud goal in the 40th minute put paid to their Euro dreams and Belgium were unable to uphold their part in the bargain by losing 3-1 to the Scandinavians.
Each of England’s qualifiers finished 1-0 - one win and two defeats - and despite the disappointment of not qualifying, Fidler will be pleased with the experience her players would have gained from the games.
