On Monday evening, the England Women’s U15 team were beaten 2-1 by Netherlands in front of a record crowd at the headquarters of Leicestershire & Rutland FA.

1,088 people watched Kay Cossington’s young side in action for the first time this season but saw them slip to defeat by the odd goal in three. Manchester United’s Katie Zelem headed an equaliser for England early in the second half after Laika Boerrigter had given the Dutch the lead on 19 minutes.

Within a minute of the equaliser, the large Dutch following that had travelled over were celebrating again as the home crowd were silenced when Vivianne Miedema put them ahead for the second time. England upped the tempo after this and The Netherlands were under pressure for the remainder of the game, and they saw a inswinging corner cleared off the line at the back post as they came close several times to forcing an equaliser, but it was not to be.

This international brought to an end a week of Women’s and Girls’ related activities which took place in and around the local area, including a Futsal competition and a female-only basic referee course.
