England drew with Holland for the second time in a week on Wednesday afternoon, but also suffered a cruel finish once again as, but for a ten minute lapse, England were well in control for the majority of the game.
During the first half, a few chances came England's way with Beth Mead's pace up front continuously causing problems for the Dutch back line. Goalkeeper Leah Fish also had her part to play, as she was called upon to save a close range shot down to her left.
England then thought they had taken the lead when a loose ball in the box was struck with power by Lucy Whipp. The shot hit the crossbar and then bounced onto the goal-line. The ball looked to have crossed the line, but the referee didn't award the goal.
On the stroke of half time, England created a great opening as the two forwards combined well. Whipp slid the ball through the defence for Mead to run onto and she calmly finished past the goalkeeper to register her second goal in as many games.
England continued to look comfortable in the second half, although without creating as many chances. With possession going back and forth between the teams, most of the play never led to much but the England forwards continued to place the Dutch defence under pressure.
It was only late on in the game, when England began to tire, that the hosts started to threaten and deep into added time, they came close from a controversially awarded corner which was only half cleared and the resulting shot was skied over the bar by a Dutch player.
Just seconds later though, a long range effort from Holland was helped onto the bar by one of the forwards and the rebound was this time, tucked away.
So following Monday's 3-3 draw with the Dutch, it resulted in a successful, but frustrating, trip for the girls.England:
1 Leah Fish (13 Amy Mullett, 35), 2 Billie Brooks (15 Marie Buckley, 67), 3 Aoife Mannion, 4 Lauren Haynes, 5 Molly Cawthorn, 6 Paige Williams (c), 7 Jenna Dear (17 Kiera Walsh 35), 8 Holly Crosby, 9 Beth Mead (16 Carla Humphrey, 44), 10 Lucy Whipp (12 Sam McGarry, 35), 11 Hollie Kelsh (14 Katie Zelem, 52).
