Youngsters lose second game in Blumengarten.

In this second game against Germany, England had a chance to put a few things right, after losing 7 – 0 on Wednesday, but it wasn't to be.

Germany started the game quickly and created a number of early chances forcing England keeper Sophie Harris into a string of good saves. However, her resistance was broken after 15 minutes, as Germany took the lead. England remained in the game until a spell of déjà vu struck with two goals in quick succession late on in the first half left the score, once again, 3-0 at the break.

England continued the fight in the second half, but Germany’s strength remained and allowed them to add a further two goals within two minutes shortly after the re-start.

Credit must go to the England girls for continuing to work hard, chasing down the opposition with persistence. As the game went on, chances began to fall England’s way with decent periods of pressure and the reward finally came in the last minute of added time, when the German goalkeeper was caught out of her area. With the goal gaping, it took what seemed an age for someone to find a path to shoot. Eventually, Katie Wilkinson kept her head to find the open goal.

Despite the result, the late goal provided a high to end the tour for the girls. Over the two games, the Germans took advantage of this inexperienced England squad but the coaching staff will be pleased that the players learnt a great deal from the tour and were able to put into practice some lessons learnt from the first game.
