England Women's matchwinner spoke to FATV after Cyprus Cup victory
Rachel Yankey fired England Women to victory in the Cyprus Cup on Wednesday evening and reflected on a job well done by the Lionesses.
Yankey scored the
stunning winner against Canada in the Final to help Hope Powell's team lift the Cup in Nicosia.
And the Arsenal Ladies forward spoke to
FATV after the game as England's preparations for this summer's Euro Finals moved on a notch.
She said: "It was a hard game. We knew it was going to be a battle and we knew the way they were going to play.
"So we had to set up for that defensively and make sure they couldn't play through us."
It was a tight contest and it looked as though a draw after 90 minutes could be on the cards.
But Yankey struck with 20 minutes remaining and that proved enough to see the Lionesses hold on for a confidence-boosting win.
She added: "We wanted to go out and win it, and we did that.
"We missed a few chances, so we were on edge but we had spells that were really good.
"And they had spells where they took possession so it was hard to break them down, but I think we played well and can be happy with that."
England Women will face Canada again on home soil next month, when the teams meet at Rotherham's New York Stadium on Sunday 7 April.
