Rachel Unitt missed just one game for England in 2011, highlighting her importance to Hope Powell’s side.

The left-back earned 13 caps in this calendar year, bettered only by Casey Stoney’s ever-presence, which included a full World Cup Finals campaign.

The Everton defender began the year in the Cyprus Cup in March, where she played against Italy, Scotland and South Korea, sitting out just the game against Canada.

She then played a key role in deserved victories over USA and Sweden as the build up to the World Cup gathered pace.

Unitt started all four games in Germany, helping England to a draw against Mexico, a victory over New Zealand and a 2-0 win - and clean sheet – against the eventual World Champions Japan.

Unitt has since started all four matches in Euro 2013 qualifying.
