2011 was the year Jill Scott really came of age.

The midfielder only made her senior team debut a few months before the 2007 World Cup, but did enough in that time to convince National Coach Hope Powell to include her in the final squad for China.

This time round, though, Scott travelled to the World Cup as an integral member of the team. The 24-year-old started every game in Germany and was England's top goalscorer with two goals – the equaliser against New Zealand and the opener against France in the quarter-final.

But Scott’s influence was not just restricted to goalscoring; she put in a Player of the Match display against eventual World Champions Japan in the final group game, helping England record a deserved 2-0 win. And such were the high level of her performances that she was named in the FIFA All-Star team after the tournament, alongside namesake Alex Scott.

Jill  Scott also scored the opening goal against Sweden in the 2-0 friendly win in May, further demonstrating her ability to produce the goods against top quality opposition.

In October, the Everton star was named ‘International Player of the Year’ by her England team-mates and coaching staff, recognition of her impressive displays throughout 2011.
