The second most capped England Women’s player in history, Rachel Yankey played 12 times for her country in 2011, scoring four goals.
Her year began in the Cyprus Cup where she featured against Italy and Canada before a crisp strike from the winger helped
defeat USA 2-1 at Brisbane Road in April.
She also played her part as
England beat Sweden 2-0 at the Kassam Stadium just a few weeks ahead of the World Cup.
Yankey started all four games in Germany and scored the second goal
in victory over eventual World Champions Japan.
The 32-year-old scored the first goal of England’s
UEFA Euro 2013 qualifying campaign,
against Serbia in September, and she also grabbed the opener, inside the first minute,
against Slovenia five days later. Yankey’s final two appearances of the year came against Holland and Serbia.
