Slovenia, Serbia and Croatia complete qualifying Group 6.
The England Women’s team face a repeat of the Euro 2009 semi-final after being drawn alongside Holland in the qualifying stage for Euro 2013.
Hope Powell’s side also face Slovenia, Serbia and Croatia in Group 6 after the draw was made in Nyon earlier today. The top-placed nation in each group will qualify for the Finals, which are being staged in Sweden, and the runners-up will go into the play-offs.
Qualification will commence in September this year but exact fixture dates will be confirmed by UEFA shortly.
“Holland will always be a tough proposition, as we found out two years ago,” the England Women’s National Coach said after the draw. “Looking at the group overall, though, I can’t really complain.
“I haven’t had much experience against Slovenia or Croatia as a manager, though I do remember playing against both nations,” Powell continued. “
Our U19s are going to Croatia at the end of this month for their Euro qualifiers so we’ll find out a bit more about their style of play then.
“As for Serbia, they are obviously fairly new to the international game so I don’t know much about them at this stage. But every nation is progressing and we expect Serbia to be no different.
“As always, we will be really diligent with our preparation to ensure we finish top of the group, rather than having to go through the play-offs.”
A Jill Scott header in extra-time steered England to the Euro Final in Finland in 2009, when they eventually
lost 6-2 to perennial champions Germany.
England’s next match is against USA at the Matchroom Stadium, home of Leyton Orient, on Saturday 2 April 2011. Click here for tickets
