Hope Powell's side to face Switzerland for World Cup place.

England will take on Switzerland in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Play-Off for a place in the finals next year in Germany.

The draw, which took place this afternoon at UEFA Headquarters Nyon, saw England drawn out against the Swiss while France face Italy, Ukraine take on Norway and Scandinavian giants Sweden and Denmark go head to head.

It has been confirmed the England will play their home leg first on Sunday 12 September at the Greenhous Meadow stadium, home of Shrewsbury Town FC. A kick off time for the fixture will be confirmed in due course.

The return fixture in Switzerland will take place on either Wednesday 15th September or Thursday 16th September. Full details to be confirmed.

Head Coach Hope Powell said: "We wanted to be one of the seeded teams in this draw and to that extent, we are happy to face Switzerland. On paper, we will be expected to qualify for the World Cup but we cannot underestimate the Swiss.

"We played them this year in the Cyprus Cup tournament and drew with them so we do have recent experience of how tough they will be. They are an improving side with some talented young players and they will want to be in Germany next year as much as us, they will be working hard to try and get there.

"We must now prepare ourselves dilligently for these two upcoming games and ensure we give ourselves the best chance to qualify. Our first objective to make sure we get a good result in our home fixture at Shrewsbury Town."
