Former England legend Marieanne Spacey today called on England's young female footballers to get involved in the game, telling them "there's no limit to what you can achieve."

Speaking at the Soho Square launch of The F.A.'s new national campaign, 'Girls Football Get Involved', Spacey who won 91 caps during her illustrious England career, spelled out the opportunities that lie ahead for young female footballers in this country.

"What's happening in the women's game at the moment is phenomenal," said the Arsenal striker. "The potential is frightening."

"For the girls that are already in the game, and for those that are keen to get involved, there's no end to what they can achieve."

From today, girls all over the country have access to a hotline which will tell them where their nearest teams are and offer advice about how to start playing regular football.

"It's about linking the huge amount of interest that there is in the game with the large number of girls' and women's teams and clubs that are fast emerging around the country," explained Kelly Simmons, the F.A.'s National Football Development Manager.

"We can't be sure of exactly how many calls we are going to get because the hotline is a new departure for us, but we are certainly hopeful that girls all over the country will be making use of this facility."

The initiative will prove a vital stepping-stone to achieving The F.A.'s stated goal of making football the number one sport for women in this country by 2004.

"We are already very close," revealed Simmons. "I think we'll probably reach our target quicker than we'd anticipated."
