Steven Gerrard admits all of the England players are keen to impress ahead of Fabio Capello's first game against Switzerland on Wednesday.
"Everyone's nervous because it's a new manager," said Gerrard.
"We don't know much about him and he doesn't know much about us personally, so it's going to take time.
"He's a very good manager. You look at his CV and as a player you want to play with the best and he is one of the best in the world.
"We had a meeting on Sunday night and he told us that everyone will get a fresh start. He wants to build a winning mentality around the place and all the players are pulling in the same direction to achieve that.
"Everyone wants to impress the new manager. Everybody has a clean slate and nobody is assured of a starting spot so these friendlies are really important."
