Shaun Wright-Phillips will undergo an operation after sustaining a tear on the cartilage in his right knee.

England midfielder Shaun Wright-Phillips will undergo an operation after sustaining a tear on the cartilage in his right knee.

The 23-year-old, who has four caps to his name, picked up the injury during the Manchester City's match against Norwich City on Monday and could be out for up to two months.

"Of course it is a blow to lose Shaun," Manchester City manager Kevin Keegan told the club's official website.

"The medical opinion is that it is a six to eight-week rehab process."

He added: "But Wrighty is very professional and a quick healer and I can assure you he is in great hands with our medical team."

England face World Cup qualifiers against Northern Ireland and Azerbaijan later this month.
