Daniel Welbeck has withdrawn from the England Under-21 squad ahead of this week’s UEFA 2011 European Championship qualifying fixture with Greece in Doncaster.
Welbeck, currently on loan at Preston North End from Manchester United, misses out as he recovers from a short-term knee injury.
With this Wednesday’s game coming just too soon for Welbeck there is better news in that the remainder of the squad have reported for duty fit-and-well following a full programme of domestic fixtures at the weekend.
The Under-21 squad met up at their team base yesterday evening and preparations for their match at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium began in earnest today, with their first training session taking place under the watchful eye of Head Coach Stuart Pearce.
Tickets for this game remain on sale at just £10 for adults and £5 for concessions (under 16 and over 60) and can be booked via the Keepmoat Stadium ticket hotline on 01302 762 576.
The match kicks off at the earlier time of 6pm prior to the England senior team’s 8pm fixture with Egypt at Wembley and will also be screened live on ESPN.
