England's Under-21s will take on France at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground in March as they continue to prepare for the summer's UEFA European Championship in Sweden. Kick-off is at 8pm.
The match marks a return to Nottingham for Coach Stuart Pearce, who spent 12 years at the City Ground, making over 500 appearances and scoring 88 goals in his playing career for Forest.
Coach Stuart Pearce said: “We intend on taking a very strong team to meet France in March. Their Under-21s side has historically been very good and it will be another competitive challenge for us after our game against Ecuador earlier this month.
"Playing against teams of this calibre is great preparation for our European Championship and the game will bring us one step closer to Sweden.
"It will also help having the players for a full ten days for both the France and Norway games.
“Going back to the City Ground will obviously be very personal to both myself and my assistant Steve Wigley”, Pearce added. “We both have strong connections there and we hope the game will get a good turn-out as the City Ground always produces fantastic crowds no matter what division the team are in.”
The fixture with France will be the Young Lions' second game in a week, with an away friendly against Norway taking place on Friday 27 March in Sandefjord. The match in Nottingham will be their penultimate international friendly before Sweden.
Nottingham Forest’s Chief Executive Mark Arthur said the club is honoured to be staging the game. "The fact that Stuart Pearce will be returning to The City Ground will certainly add to the sense of occasion.
"Stuart is very much regarded as an adopted son of Nottingham after he enjoyed such a wonderful playing career with us. It will be marvellous to see him back at the club in charge of England’s rising young stars.”
The Under-21s secured their qualification for this summer's UEFA European Championship Finals following a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Wales, seeing them through 5-4 on aggregate in October last year.
England have been drawn in Group B alongside Spain, Germany and Finland for the Finals and will kick-off their bid to win the tournament when they face Finland on 15 June in Halmstad, Sweden.
