Gabriel came off the bench to make his Under-21 debut against Germany on 6 October 2006 and has since been called up to Fabio Capello’s senior squad for the matches against Switzerland, USA and Trinidad & Tobago in 2008.
Ben Alnwick

DOB: 01/01/87
Spurs goalkeeper Ben was part of the Under-21 setup for over a year before he was handed his debut, which finally came as a substitute against Romania at Ashton Gate in August 2007.
Dexter Blackstock

DOB: 20/05/86
Dexter was selected in Stuart Pearce’s first-ever England Under-21 squad in August 2007 and made his debut for The Three Lions on 7 September, coming off the substitutes bench against Montenegro to set up the final goal in a 3-0 win.
Fraizer Campbell

Fraizer’s form while on loan at Hull City in 2007/2008 earned him his first call-up to the Under-21 squad for the match against Poland on 25 March. He made his debut in that match, coming off the bench during the 0-0 draw at Molineux.
Lee Cattermole

Lee’s ascent through the ranks at Middlesbrough led to international recognition at Under-21 level when he made his debut for England Under-21s in their 2-0 win over Bulgaria in a European Under-21 Championship Qualifier at Stadium:MK on 16 November 2007.

Matt received his first call-up to the England Under-21s in November 2007, while on loan at Colchester United from Arsenal. He joined QPR in January 2008.
Martin Cranie

Martin made his debut appearance for the Under-21s in the friendly against Romania at Ashton Gate in August 2007 and featured regularly during England’s UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying campaign.
Scott Dann

Scott jumped from League One to the Championship in January 2008 when he left Walsall to join Coventry City – and he made the jump from club football to international football when he made his debut for England Under-21s against Poland on 25 March the same year.

A former youth coach at Blackburn Rovers, Matt developed into a first-team player himself and after impressing at Ewood Park, the lively striker was selected by Stuart Pearce for the England Under-21s, and scored on his debut, a 3-3 draw with Italy at the new Wembley.

A product of the Everton youth system, Daniel transferred to the Sky Blues in January 2008 after a successful spell in League One with Walsall. His performances at the Ricoh Arena earned him a first call-up, and debut appearance, for the Under-21s against Poland on 25 March 2008.

Equally at home at centre half or in midfield, Craig has impressed both Villa manager Martin O’Neill and England’s Under-21 coach Stuart Pearce, leading to regular appearances for both club and country in 2007/2008. Craig made his England Under-21 debut against Romania in August 2007.

Joe Hart displaced Kasper Schmeichel and Andreas Isaaksson as the starting goalkeeper at Manchester City in 2007/2008, and his performances at Eastlands have led to international recognition at U19, Under-21 and senior level. He made his senior debut against Trinidad & Tobago in Port of Spain on 1 June.

The latest in a long line of young stars to come out of the Manchester United academy, Tom has gained valuable first team experience with Swindon Town and Royal Anterp, before returning to United’ senior squad in 2007-2008. Made his England Under-21 debut as a substitute against Poland on 25 March 2008.

A long-established member of the England Under-21 setup, Huddlestone cuts an imposing figure at centre half or in midfield. Tom’s first goal for the Under-21s came in a 5-0 win over Slovakia in June 2007.

A powerful, pacy striker, Cameron has been a key player for both Cardiff City and Birmingham City at club level, and has made the transition to international football with England’s Under-21s in recent seasons. Cameron made his Under-21 debut as a late substitute against Austria in October 2005.

A lifelong Sunderland fan plying his trade for his hometown club, Grant has developed into a fine midfielder for his club, resulting in international honours with England’s Under-21s. He made his debut as a substitute against Bulgaria in November 2007.

Aaron is an experienced operator at international level. He was part of Sven Goran Eriksson’s World Cup squad in 2006, making appearances against Trinidad & Tobago and Portugal during the tournament – and has featured in a number of squads since then. A former England U18 captain, Mark was also part of the U19 squad that reached the Final of the UEFA European U19 Championships in 2007. An influential player for club and country, Mark scored his first goal for the Under-21s against Bulgaria in September 2007.

Jamie was called into the Under-21 setup in early 2008, making his debut on his second squad appearance in March 2008 against Poland. He can operate at left back, left midfield or his preferred position of centre midfield.
Nedum Onuoha

Nedum made his debut for the Under-21s as a late substitute against Poland in October 2005, and went on to establish himself as a regular in the Under-21 setup. He scored his first Under-21 goal in the 3-0 win over Montenegro in September 2007 and went on to captain the side for the first time against Poland in March 2008.

A classy operator for his club, Southampton, midfielder Andrew Surman made a dream start to his Under-21 career. Andrew came off the bench with ten minutes remaining to score the third and final goal against Montenegro in a European Championship Qualifier in September 2007.

A former member of the England U19 team, Andrew received his first call-up to the England Under-21 squad for the European Championship Qualifier against Montenegro in September 2007 and made his full debut in that match, playing the entire 90 minutes. He has since featured regularly at left back for Stuart Pearce’s Young Lions side.

An influential player for club and country, Steven has captained England’s Under-21s on multiple occasions, including leading the Young Lions in the 2007 European Under-21 Championships, where England went all the way to the Semi-Finals. Steven made his Under-21 debut against Holland in February 2004.

A record-breaker for England, Theo became England’s youngest ever full international by appearing against Hungary at Old Trafford in May 2006.
