Martin Kelly tells TheFA.com how the squad are looking forward to Saturday.

England defender Martin Kelly says he just can't wait to get cracking at the World Cup after nearly two weeks of preparations with the Young Lions.

Brian Eastick's team begin their Group D campaign on Saturday evening when they face Uruguay in Ismailia and after spending a week in Cyprus and then arriving at their Egyptian base on Monday night, Kelly just wants to get on the pitch and into competitive action.

"The preparations have been great and all the lads have gelled together and the training's been good too," the Liverpool ace told TheFA.com camera.

"There's been a good intensity about it, building up to the game, which is what we like to see and we just want to get playing now."

Kelly also sees this competition as a second chance for him to participate in a big international tournament after unfortunately missing out on the summer's UEFA European U19 Championship Finals in Ukraine.

"I was a bit disappointed not to go with the U19s in the summer, but that was up to the club that I wasn't allowed to go so this is an opportunity for me now and hopefully I can take it," he added.

"I'm just going to try my hardest, just like every player who plays will be.

"The last U20 World Cup has been on the TVs out here so we've been watching that and we know how big it is and we just can't wait to play.

"There's been a big build-up to it and we just want to get playing our first game.

"We've heard what Uruguay are like and they will be strong, but I think our team can cope with it and if we play like we have been doing in training, then we've got a good chance."
