England U20s winger Matt Phillips believes there are plenty of positives which can be picked out from their World Cup opener with Korea DPR ahead of the second match with Argentina on Monday evening.

Whilst the players were disappointed to only draw the first game on Friday, Phillips feels the performance in general was good, particularly in the first-half when England seemingly did everything but score the crucial goal they needed.

“We played some good stuff at times and were a bit unlucky not to go in front before half-time,” he told FATV.

“There was maybe some tiredness in the second half, but there are a lot of positives to take from the first game and also a lot of things that we can work on.”

For now though, concentration is focused firmly on the game with Argentina and it’s one which all of the players have been looking forward to since the draw was made.

And with some of the experienced members of staff on board for this World Cup, there’s no shortage of advice or anecdotes to call upon from previous encounters with the South Americans.

“I’ve been listening to the physio Gary Lewin a bit about some of the stuff that the Seniors have gone through with Argentina,” added the Blackpool ace.

“There’s a bit of a rivalry, but hopefully we can live up to that and go and get a win against them.

“Just to represent my country is a massive thing, but to come to a World Cup with the way it’s run and to be a part of that is great.”
