Sweden - Engvall 13' Ssewankambo 65'

Nordic runners-up

Saturday, 11 August, 2012

A goal in each half sees Sweden beat England U17s 2-0 in Nordic Tournament Final.

England finished runners-up in the Nordic Tournament following a 2-0 defeat to Sweden in the Final.

Gustav Engvall put the Swedes ahead after 13 minutes and Isak Ssewankambo rounded off the win with quarter of an hour remaining.

Kenny Swain’s young charges created a host of chances in the Faroe Islands decider but they couldn’t find a goal their attacking play, certainly in the second half, merited.

Isiah Brown and Bradley Fewster, twice, had England’s best chances but neither were able to find a way past Swedish stopper Hampus Stromgren.

Despite not being able to end this annual friendly tournament on a winning note, it has been a very worthwhile learning trip for the Young Lions, who picked up victories over the host nation and Finland before a well fought 0-0 draw with Norway.

The U17s are next in action at the end of the month when they host the St. George’s Park Tournament, where they will entertain Italy, Portugal and Turkey. Callum Jones and Connor Ogilvie, who were both part of the Nordic squad will be involved again.
