Zak Ansah scores but U17s lose for first time this season.
England U17s slipped to their first defeat of the season as Germany beat the Young Lions 3-1 in the second game of The Algarve Tournament.
Erich Berko put the Germans 1-0 up in the 12th minute and this lead was doubled by Kaan Ayhan on 53. Arsenal forward Zak Ansah half the deficit just three minutes later before Samed Yesil wrapped up the victory with Germany’s third just after the hour mark.
Ansah had a chance to reduce the arrears once more but missed his spot-kick with 22 minutes remaining.
Head Coach John Peacock is using this tournament as preparation for the UEFA European U17 Championship Elite Qualifying Round, where his side have been pitched against Northern Ireland, Spain and Belgium. Only the top-placed nation will make it through to the European Finals which will take place in Serbia in May.
England drew 1-1 with Romania in their Algarve Tournament opener and their final match is against the host nation on Sunday.
