England U17s will be hoping to make it two wins out of two on Monday evening, when they take on Malta at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium in their latest Elite Qualifying Round game.
John Peacock’s team made the perfect start in their quest to reach May’s Finals when they defeated Sweden by 4-0 on Saturday afternoon and a second victory against the Maltese would really put the Young Lions in pole position for a spot on the plane to Liechtenstein and the last eight of the competition.
With a squad of 18 to pick from, and with goalkeeper Sam Johnstone suspended following his sending off against the Swedes, Peacock will have to use more players for this game but he will be making sure that they don’t lose focus of what needs to be achieved.
"As far as we're concerned, it's been a good start, nothing more than that,” said Peacock ahead of the game.
“We’re not in the European Finals, but it's been a step in the right direction.
“We'll give Malta all the attention they deserve and look to get the right result."
Peacock wouldn’t be drawn on how many or which changes he was considering for the game though, knowing that there is also the final match of the group against Slovakia to come on Thursday.
"This is a strong squad and it's difficult just picking a starting eleven,” added Peacock.
“On Saturday, we had seven disappointed players on the bench, who have all played well in training this week and all competed very well but I can't pick all 18, obviously, so a few have to be left out.
“I've got no issue whatsoever bringing somebody off the bench because I know they can all do a job for the team.”
