Belgium v England
An U16 International Match
6pm (GMT), Tuesday 9 February 2010
RFC Sèrèsien - Stade du Pairay, Seraing, Belgium

England’s U16 side will take on Belgium next month in preparation for the Montaigu Tournament which gets underway at the end of March.

This will be their first experience of playing overseas against a side from outside the British Isles.

In November, Kenny Swain’s side lifted the Victory Shield for the ninth consecutive season after registering victories over Wales (1-0), Northern Ireland (2-0) and Scotland (2-1) and they will look to bring that form into the Montaigus, a tournament in which their predecessors triumphed last year. Jordan Cousins was a member of that successful side and after captaining England to victory over Wales in October he has been included in the squad that will fly to Seraing.

In Everton’s Tyias Browning, Crewe’s Max Clayton and Bolton’s Lewis Fielding, Swain has given three players their maiden international call-up, while the other 15 players have already had some experience of international football via the Victory Shield.

The Montaigu Tournament, which is staged in France every year, comprises two groups of four with the top nation in each group contesting the Final. This year England have been placed in Group B alongside Ukraine, Japan and Gabon. Group A consists of Portugal, United Arab Emirates, Benin and the tournament hosts. The group stage will take place between 31 March and 5 April.
