TheFA.com continues the series of 'Snap-Shot Reviews', talking to the England coaching team for their highlights of the year and their expectations for the next... today we speak to Under-16s Head coach John McDermott...
What is your most memorable football moment of the year?
Personally it was leading England Under-16's out for my first International game as a coach in May. Similarly the subsequent 13 International games since then, also provide memorable moments.
What is the best goal you have seen this year?
My favourite World Cup goal was Senegal's counter attack goal against Denmark, when the ball travelled the full length of the pitch. Domestically Alan Shearer's recent volley (against Everton) comes to mind.
Who is your world player of the year?
Thierry Henry (because I have seen more of him than Ronaldo)
Your regret?
None
Give us a tip of a of a young player to watch out for next year (English or Non English)
This is a question that people responsible for developing young players are always asked. There are a number of potentially excellent players in the young England age groups that I have been dealing with, but to name them puts unfair pressure on what is a massive challenge ahead in becoming a professional player. We can all name outstandingly talented young players from lots of countries who have been called the next.....Bobby Moore, Pele, etc and have not achieved that potential.
Biggest aim for next year?
To try to find and help develop (gradually and quietly!!) the next Bobby Moore!!
New year's resolution?
Spend less time listening and watching Tony Parkes and Nigel Pearsons' slapstick routine when away with the teams.
Remember to stay logged on every day for the views of a different member of England coaching staff, next up Sven...
