England's Partially Sighted Team miss out on a place in the Euro Championship Final

England Partially Sighted Team were defeated 6-1 by Spain in the IBSA European Championship semi-final on Friday.

The first half was an evenly matched affair, both teams creating chances with Gauden and Daley stinging the hands of the Spanish Keeper. Dix’s presences in the goal kept out the Spanish and the half finished 0-0.

The Spanish at the start of the second half attacked from the kick-off and in the first minute the Spanish number 8, for the first time, found some space to take it round Dix and the recovery run and desperate attempt by Vernaeve could not stop the ball trickling over the line. The Spanish grew in confidence and put the England goal under more pressure.

Though Graham Keeley's team were resilient in defence, unfortunately they conceded a further two goals from deflected shots deceiving the goalkeeper.

England were lifted by a creative dribble by Daley, who slotted the ball in underneath the Spanish stopper pulling a goal back and giving hope with ten minutes to go.

But this was not to be as Spain put the pressure back on and unfortunately England lost McDougall for a second bookable offence.

They fought hard to play out the two minute spell with four men but were unable to keep the Spanish out, conceding twice.

Late towards the end of the half England were deflated and Spain scored a final goal to make the score 6-1.

England now need to lift themselves as they prepare for the 3rd-4th play-off game against Ukraine on Saturday 9 June.

Squad: 1 Dix, 2 Bricknell, 3 Pugh, 4 D Gauden, 5 Vernaeve, 6 Lamb, 7 Daley, 10 McDougall, 13 Bailey.
