Peter Taylor was delighted with the winning performance of his Under-21 side in Denmark on Tuesday.
England came out on top thanks to Darren Ambrose's last minute winner, but Taylor said they deserved the victory over a tough and competitive Danish outfit.
"It took a while to break them down but we got there in the end," he said. "We played some exceptional attacking stuff in the first-half which I was very pleased with.
"The only frustrating thing was we missed some good chances which would have made the game safe."
"For us," added Taylor, "it was a perfect friendly because we involved everybody.
"I thought the Denmark team was a very good team. I can understand why they are winning their group so easily and they have a strong group."
With a number of key players still missing, the victory will give England a huge boost of confidence ahead of two very important games next month.
The Three Lions travel to Wales and Germany in their European Championship Qualifiers, and after such a tough test in Denmark, Taylor believes it has put his team in good stead.
"Both teams got a lot out of tonight. It wasn't played like a friendly, it was played like a competitive game.
"We also have some very good players who were not with us tonight. We just want to be lucky and hopefully be able to pick our strongest squad when we need to."
He added: "There is no reason why we shouldn't be challenging for honours with that squad."
