YOUNG LIONS WATCH: We take a look at the young England stars who were in the spotlight over the weekend.
Teenage prodigy Daniel Sturridge made his debut for Manchester City reserves on Tuesday night at the age of 15.City’s caretaker-manager Stuart Pearce has high hopes for Sturridge. "He has a bright future and we feel we are the club to bring him on," said Pearce. (Daily Sport)Sturridge scored goals against Portugal, Cameroon and the Ivory Coast for the England Under-16s in the recent Montaigu Tournament.England Under-21 midfielder Kieran Richardson (below) believes his impressive form while on loan at West Brom will help his bid to land a place in the Manchester United side.Richardson, who joined the Baggies in the January transfer window, has caught the eye with some good performances for Bryan Robson’s men.He said: "Hopefully I have given Sir Alex (Ferguson) some food for thought. I have been doing well for the England Under-21s." (Daily Mirror)Darren Bent scored twice to help Ipswich improve their hopes of automatic promotion with a 4-3 win over Rotherham.England Under-21 striker Bent fired home from the edge of the area to give Ipswich a 2-0 lead and added a second from close-range.Bent ended his recent goal drought at the weekend when he scored against Derby. Ipswich are second in the Championship table, three points ahead of Wigan.England Under-21 defender Anton Ferdinand impressed in West Ham’s 1-0 win at Burnley on Tuesday night.With his brother Rio looking on, Anton produced another good performance in central defence.Speaking to the official West Ham website, Ferdinand said: "I’ve been really pleased with the way I’ve been playing."Young Lion Andrew Davies featured in QPR’s 1-1 draw against Gillingham on Tuesday night.Davies, who is on loan from Middlesbrough, has been named in the provisional 30-man England Under-21 squad for this summer’s Toulon Tournament.
