Ryan Bertrand has spoken of the England U19 squad's determination to succeed in the European Championship this summer, starting with a win against Italy on Thursday evening.

After suffering defeat against hosts Czech Republic in the opening game on Monday, the Young Lions now know that their remaining Group B games with Italy and Greece take on more importance and two wins will be enough to see them through to the semi-finals.

"No-one is ever going to go through after the result in their first game," Bertrand told TheFA.com

"So whether we got a result or not on Monday, I think the most important thing is that we do go into the other two games thinking positively and that we can go through.

"Hopefully we can get two wins now."

The team spirit remains high within the squad and that was boosted on Tuesday evening when the group and staff took part in a bowling competition at their hotel base in Liberec.

Coupled with the fact that Monday's result was their first competitive defeat of the season, Bertrand feels that the positivity in the camp can be taken into the Italy game.

"We had a little bowling leisure activity together last night and that really brought the team together," he explained.

"And everyone looked lively in training today, so hopefully we can go into the Italy game really positively and get three points."

The Chelsea defender, who is set to spend the first half of next season on loan with Championship outfit Norwich City, also believes that the Young Lions will have a tought opponent in the Azzurini who drew 1-1 with Greece in their opener on Monday.

"The Italians should be a similar sort of size and shape to the Czech Republic, but probably with more quality so we're going to have to raise our game," he added.

"If we play our football and concentrate on our performance, then I think we can beat most teams out here."
