Northampton’s Sixfields Stadium will host a selection of England’s most promising young players when the England Under-19s take on Slovakia later this month.

England’s Under-19s are among the top-rated nations in Europe having finished runner-up in last year’s UEFA European Championship.
Several players who have already appeared in the Premiership have featured for the Under-19s this season including Mark Noble of West Ham and Middlesbrough duo defender David Wheater and winger Adam Johnson.
Coach Martin Hunter said: “We have enjoyed some success at Under-19 level in recent times, reaching the Final of the European Championship last year.
“The match against Slovakia will be a fantastic opportunity for football fans in the Northampton area to see many of the most talented young players in the country in action.
“Slovakia will provide strong opposition and it’s an important match for us as we prepare to take part in qualifying for this summer’s tournament.”
The international friendly match at Sixfields is a crucial part of the Under-19s’ preparations for their bid to reach the 2006 European Under-19 Championship.
England have been drawn alongside Belgium, Serbia & Montenegro and Northern Ireland in the Elite Qualifying Round for the competition. Matches will take place in Belgium between 18 and 22 May.
The UEFA European Under-19 Championship will be held in Poland in July. England’s Under-19s qualified for last year’s Championship in Northern Ireland, reaching the Final where they were beaten by France.
The Sixfields Stadium has hosted three previous England youth internationals.
The last Under-19s match at the stadium in 2002 saw Blackburn’s Ciaran Donnelly score all four goals in an impressive victory over Romania. In 1998, England’s Under-16s drew 0-0 with Slovakia.
The most recent international saw the England Under-18 side beat Belgium 1-0 through a goal from James Morrison of Middlesbrough.
