England seemed destined to start The FA International Tournament with a win after Chelsea's Michael Woods netted twice to hand the hosts a 2-0 lead within 50 minutes.

There were a few nervous twitches when Umut Sozen swept home with 12 minutes remaining, and the comeback was complete in injury-time by Tunay Torun who, in acres of space at the far post, rifled into the back of the net to steal an unlikely share of the spoils.

A small pocket of Turkish fans erupted and some jubilant substitutes invaded the pitch to celebrate - all of which was in stark contrast to Peacock who was left to contemplate three points lost.

"Conceding so late in the game, it was a disappointment," said Peacock. "But as a spectacle for youth football it was a high quality game and enjoyable for the crowd, but not for the coaches in terms of the ebb and flow of the game."

Wednesday night's game was Peacock's first opportunity to see the new batch of players, and he was delighted by most of what he saw.

"There were many plus points. It's my first time working with the group and I was impressed. There is a good spirit in the camp. There are some good players, certainly going forward. We just need to be a bit more organised, especially when we lose possession. We can improve that by practice and training.

"We have spoken to them about state of the game, managing the game. When you are in front, it's managing to stay in front. There would have been many lessons learned tonight. At times we chased it when we did not need to. We could have been a bit more compact, we just need to retain possession at the right time."

There were a number of eye-catching displays, including Danny Rose in midfield, but it was goalkeeper Alex Smithies and goalscorer Michael Woods who were the names being muttered by the supporters as they filtered out of Griffin Park after the final whistle.

Smithies did wonderfully well in goal, producing a number of tremendous saves - the best of which was a low save to repel Sercan Yildirim's penalty in the second half.

Huddersfield certainly have a gem, and Peacock was pleased with his performance.

"Alex did very well. I'm delighted with him, obviously for making the save for the penalty but he made a number of key saves," said Peacock.

Peacock was also full of praise for Woods. The Chelsea man scored a tremendous first goal, jinking past a handful of players before blasting into the far corner. He doubled his tally just after the break with a more regulation tap-in.

But it was not just his goalscoring that stood out. Comfortable when running with the ball and strong in the tackle, Woods' range of passing, both long and short, was laser guided. He looks a star in the making.

"Michael Woods was very good. He leads by example, is tenacious and is a winner. His goal was outstanding. I was pleased with his performance, but I was pleased with all of them," said Peacock.

England now play the USA on Friday before taking on Portugal on Sunday.

"The USA will be a physical game, they are good athletes," said Peacock.
