England U17 Team FA Friendly International Tournament Portugal, Turkey & USA 26 August - 3 September 2006 Yeading, Brentford, Aldershot, Staines, Swindon
John Peacock has named his England U17s squad to take on Portugal, Turkey and the USA at the end of the month in the annual FA International Tournament.
The Young Lions start the four team friendly tournament on 30 August, with the games will be played at Brentford, Yeading, Aldershot, Staines and Swindon.
With a number of players making the step up from Kenny Swain's U16 side, Peacock has a great deal of youth and attacking flair to call on with many members of the side that retained last season's Victory Shield.
The captain of that side, West Ham defender Jordan Spence, will be looking to cement his place in the central defence while the U16s prolific goalscorer Danny Rose will be looking to be amongst the goals again this season as he also makes the step up.
Peacock has been working closely with Kenny Swain, U16s coach, in putting the list together and will be able to call on his help during the tournament.
Peacock told TheFA.com: "This is the first involvement I'll have with the group of players, although I have seen them play a few times over the last year.
"Kenny has brought them through and with him assisting me this year it will bring continuity between the two groups. Generally they have got some talent in there and I'm just looking forward to seeing them at close hand.
"It will be three very different games I think, Portugal have been involved in this tournament for a number of years now and we always very close encounters with them. I reckon it will be another exciting game.
"Turkey and USA both have excellent track records at this level and each side brings a different dimension to the table."
Peacock will be using this tournament as the first major test before he takes his side into the UEFA European Championship Qualifiers next year, and he believes that the tournament atmosphere will bring out the best in the players.
"This is a spring board for the qualifiers next year, and the more tournament experience I can give the players the better," Peacock insisted.
"We also tend to get big crowds for these games, it's a great experience for the boys to play at big stadiums with a good crowd behind them.
"Playing tournaments is always different from one-off games and I think you see different reactions and I'll be able to find out a great deal about these players.
"A lot of the international youth teams really enjoy coming to England to play us because we do put on a good tournament and this will be played in some excellent venues."
