Clemence, who earlier this year was diagnosed with prostate cancer, is in Iceland with the England U17s as they prepare to begin their Nordic Tournament campaign against Finland tomorrow.

Speaking ahead of a training session in Reykjavik, Clemence told TheFA.com about how he felt to be involved with an England squad once more.

"It's been a long six months that I've had to take a little break from it," Clemence said.

"I was lucky that Sven invited me to be part of the squad for the two World Cup games against Northern Ireland and Wales - it was nice to be part of the squad but of course this is the first time I've been back on the training field.

"It's nice to be back out there, in amongst it all - not only on the training field but the jokes and the rest of the banter. I'm just enjoying being involved and working with some of the best young English goalkeepers in the country."

After this week's tournament, Clemence will be involved with the England Seniors' matches against Denmark, Wales and Northern Ireland and Clemence is delighted to have such a busy schedule.

"I am back into it in a full-time capacity," Clemence confirmed. "I've had enough time away, I don't want to be eased back in to it - I want to get straight at it!

"After this trip here I will be joining up with the Seniors squad for the friendly game against Denmark and then two weeks after that we've got two massive games against Wales and Northern Ireland."

One player who Clemence will be keeping a close eye on as the season gets underway is Chris Kirkland, who has joined West Bromwich Albion on a season-long loan.

Kirkland has endured more than his fair share of injuries over the past few years and he, along with all the England coaching staff, will be hoping he can stay fit and get some games under his belt.

Clemence continued: "What Chris needs is an injury-free run and to play regular first team football and of course he's got that opportunity with a Premiership club, so that's a big bonus for him.

"Everyone is keeping their fingers crossed that he keeps clear of injury and he's done very well in pre-season but the real test will come when the Premiership season starts.

"We'll be keeping a close watch on him and the other English 'keepers in the Premiership as well as Robert Green in The Championship with Norwich."
