England 2-1 Norway

UEFA U17 European Championship
2nd Qualifying Round
Bramall Lane
28 March 2004

England have finished the Second Qualifying Round for the UEFA Under-17 European Championships with maximum points after coming from behind to win against Norway today.

Having already sealed qualification with a 1-0 win against Iceland at Belle Vue on Friday night, Head Coach John Peacock decided to give a number of players their first run out, and they certainly did not disappoint - all contributed to England's strong, battling performance.

It was the more experienced hands who had the decisive touches though, with West Ham's Kyel Reid cancelling Norway's advantage in the first half, and Manchester United's Fraizer Campbell striking his second goal in two games in the second half to seal victory at Bramall Lane.

England U17s coach Nigel Pearson was pleased with the team's effort saying: "We played some good attacking football, and finished the tournament on a high note. We gave away a sloppy goal but came back well and ensured that it was 3 wins out of 3 going into the Championship Finals in May.

"By qualifying for the finals the players now get a chance to further add to their experience, and being undefeated in 6 games can be quietly confident of their chances irrespective of who we get drawn against."

The draw for the European U17 Championships will be made at the end of next week, and TheFA.com will bring you all the details plus the reaction of Head Coach John Peacock.
