Michael Owen has sent his congratulations to David Beckham after the LA Galaxy man won his 100th cap for England.

Beckham's achievement was applauded by all of the Three Lions squad, who signed a shirt in the dressing room after last night's match against France in Paris to mark the occasion.

It is an achievement that deserves to be recognised according to Newcastle striker Owen, who has played alongside Beckham for England over the last decade.

"Congratulations to David for getting the 100 because it’s a great achievement," said Owen, who doesn't expect Beckham to stop at the century mark, either.

"He’s a fit lad, he’s hungry," he added.

"He’s got a fantastic right foot – nothing’s changed there because he’s been like that for many, many years. I’m sure he’ll get more caps."

As for himself, Owen was pleased to come off the bench in the second half to add to his own collection of England caps as he continues his return from injury.

“Playing and keeping fit is the key," he explained.

"The more I do, the better I’ll feel and I’ll obviously put in better performances.  Everyone wants to impress the manager and I’m no different."

Owen, who has one or two records in his sights including Bobby Charlton's goalscoring record, hopes to force his way into the starting line-up in future.

"We’ll see what happens next time," he said. "We’ve got a spate of friendlies now so there’s plenty of time for the manager to try different things."
