FIFA World Cup 2010
European Qualification Draw
Sunday 25 November 2007
Durban, South Africa
Brian Barwick insists England will show respect for all their World Cup qualifying opponents after the draw was made on Sunday.
The FA Chief Executive was in Durban to see England be matched with Croatia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Andorra in Group 6.
While the chance to avenge two defeats by Slaven Bilic's side will get the most attention, Barwick says England need to focus on the other four teams in their group if they are to reach South Africa in 2010.
"Well it is an interesting group with a top-line match that people will home in on, Croatia and England again, so we have an early opportunity to see if we can fair better against a team who beat us home and away," said Barwick.
"Revenge is not my word, I was mightily impressed with Croatia and the new coach will be in place and his job will be to get a better return than we did out of the previous Croatia games.
"The reality of it is, it is not about one team, it is a group. There are banana skins in the group and we have to respect every team in it as sometimes you can drop points against teams you don't expect to - but there is a lot of travel, a lot interesting places and an opportunity to get England's competitive roadshow back on the rails.
"We will show them the right level of respect, this is an important time for England - our elimination from the European Championship is a wake up-call and probably one of the biggest wake-up calls for England in the last 20 years and we have got a job to work out how to put it right and is starts when I get back from South Africa.
"We go into any qualification, expecting, wanting, determined to qualify but we cannot have any more complacency."
