Bobby Moore, the World Cup winning captain of England's 1966 victory, is one of the best central defenders the game has ever seen.
During his long and illustrious England career, his ability to remain composed and skilful on the ball saw him win 108 caps, a record only surpassed by Peter Shilton.
Moore's talent first came to the fore when he earned a call up to the England Under-23 side aged just 19, and he made his senior international debut in a 4-0 victory over Peru in 1962.
One year later, at 22 years and 47 days old, he became his country's youngest skipper and holds the joint record as the longest running captain at 90 matches.
Moore enjoyed great moments at Wembley with West Ham, lifting the FA Cup and European Cup Winners' Cup there in 1964 and 1965 respectively, but his greatest triumph was undoubtedly 12 months later with his country.
Not only did he lift the Jules Rimet Trophy, but his outstanding vision and execution set up Geoff Hurst for the fourth England goal in the Final against West Germany. A fantastic year for the national team captain was sealed when he was crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
England's unsuccessful campaign to regain the World Cup in Mexico still allowed Moore to show just how skilled he was with his wonderful tackle on Pele and his domination of the great striker.
Commenting around the time of Moore's death in 1993, Pele stated: "He was my friend as well as the greatest defender I played against. The world has lost one of its greatest football players and an honourable gentleman."
Moore made his last appearance for the Three Lions in 1973 and retired from football five years later. In 1993, aged just 51, Robert Frederick Chelsea Moore died of cancer and the world of football mourned.
However, Moore's contribution has not been forgotten and a magnificent statue of the former England captain now resides outside the new Wembley Stadium.
