Whilst delighted with the result and performance of his team, England Head Coach Steve McClaren admitted that Ashley Cole is an injury doubt ahead of his side’s crucial showdown with Russia on Wednesday.
The Chelsea full-back was carried off during the 3-0 win against Estonia in the early stages of the second half after falling awkwardly in the area whilst trying to clear a cross.
With Nicky Shorey, who wasn’t named amongst the substitutes for the Estonia game, already an injury concern, McClaren may have to look at the likes of Gareth Barry or Phil Neville to fill the problem position.
“I think Ashley took a knock on his ankle blocking a shot,” revealed McClaren.
“We are assessing it but it doesn’t look good at the moment. We’ll have to monitor it over the next couple of days.”
