Fabio Capello has described the chance to manage the England national side as 'a dream come true'.

The 61-year-old Italian was unveiled as the new England Manager on Monday afternoon and the former AC Milan, Roma and Real Madrid coach is looking forward to the challenge of restoring pride to the national game.

"I am very proud and honoured to be the England Manager," he said. "I have wanted this job for a long time.

"It is an honour and a dream come true. It is a job that everyone wants and there are great expectations and I'm going to work to achieve these with The FA."

Capello conducted the majority of his first press conference in Italian but he is confident that the language barrier will not prevent him from carrying out his job effectively.

He said: "I’m convinced that in one month when I meet the players for the first I will be able to talk the language.

"I believe its very important to be able to communicate with the players. I will employ a really strict routine and apply myself every day. I want to learn the language in time for when I meet the players next month."

FA Chief Executive Brian Barwick strongly believes he has identified the perfect candidate to bring success to the national side.

"I think we have an outstanding man with an outstanding record and I look forward to working with him from 7 January," he said.

"Trevor Brooking and I were always clear on the calibre of man we needed and the next appointment has to be of world class status. Fabio is a winner with a capital ‘W’."
