David Nugent has talked about his delight at representing England and how he is relishing his chance to turn out for the 'B' side against Albania on Friday.

The Preston striker has enjoyed an impressive season in the Championship, but is now thinking about his country and is keen to impress Three Lions Head Coach Steve McClaren again.

"I want to be playing for England, that's where all the top class players are, half of them captain their own clubs as well, so that's where I want to be," Nugent said.

"I want to be selected for the next two senior internationals against Brazil and Estonia and then have a good tournament in the European Championships for the Under-21s.

"Further down the line I want to be selected in the full squad."

Nugent, 22, who scored on his England debut against Andorra in March, will get a further opportunity to enhance his reputation this summer when he travels to Holland for the U21 European Championships, a competition that he believes the young Lions can win.

"I think we have a great chance of winning the tournament," he said. "We've got a lot of players playing in the Premiership on a regular basis and we are unbeaten this year, so there's no reason we can't go there and win."

A winners' medal in Holland would cap a memorable season for the young striker, although Nugent still feels disappointed at the way Preston's season faded after such an encouraging start.

"I had a fantastic season, an England cap and the goal really boosted it, but for Preston it's disappointing that we didn't make the Play-Offs."
