Everton and USA goalkeeper Tim Howard says his appearance at Wembley capped off a great season for both club and country.

Despite ending up on the losing side at Wembley, Howard described his Wembley appearance as a "perfect cap" with which to finish a great season that has seen him achieve European qualification with his club.

"It's relief to finally be in Europe," Howard explained.

"Aston Villa pushed us to the wire and we had a few sleepless nights, but it was good.

"For me to come back here [to England] is always a pleasure as I live here and ply my trade here, so it was a perfect cap."

While American Howard plies his trade in England, England's David Beckham plays his football in America, and the Everton custodian was impressed with the form of LA Galaxy's star man.

"I think he's as good as advertised," said the American stopper.

"We know that he's a tremendous football player.

"Any time you can play against a top quality player, who I think David Beckham was and still is, that's the sort of people you want to test yourself against.

"Unfortunately we gave him a few too many chances and with one of the dead balls he punished us."
