Micah Richards will join up with England today with the praise of Head Coach Steve McClaren ringing in his ears.
Richards starred for Manchester City in a dramatic 1-0 victory over deadly derby rivals Manchester United on Sunday, with McClaren watching from the television studio, and picks up our England Player of the Weekend honour.
The talented young defender played at centre-half for the game at the City of Manchester Stadium and was outstanding.
He won praise all round for his display - and especially from his international manager.
McClaren said: "He did really well. These are his first games playing centre-half so there is still a lot more to come from him.
"He is such a strong boy and so quick. He may not be the best reader of the game but he just recovers and get back so well. He was very impressive."
Richards’ form is good news for England and he will be challenging for a place in the team to face Germany on Wednesday, whether it is at centre-half or right-back.
There was also good news for the Three Lions at Anfield, where England and Chelsea Captain John Terry returned from a knee injury to guide his side to a 1-1 draw against Liverpool.
Shaun Wright-Phillips also continued his impressive start to the season while Frank Lampard scored Chelsea’s equaliser from the penalty spot.
