Joe Cole has pledged to do everything in his power to repay the faithful support of England fans who follow their country to the ends of the earth.

After meeting supporters at an englandfans Q&A session, Cole admitted that the encouragement they receive always gives the Three Lions an edge whether at home or abroad.

"Wherever we are in the world, we are always well supported," Cole explained. "We get so much encouragement and the players appreciate that - it's not cheap to follow England everywhere.

"When you play for England you're playing for your country and your people and we're all in it together - fans and players alike. If we achieve something, we achieve it together - and if we lose then we lose together.

"When we play at tournaments they can make those neutral venues into home games for us. When you get 40 or 50,000 fans cheering you on it does make a difference - it gives you an edge."

As for the new Wembley Stadium, Cole believes that the upcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers provide the perfect opportunity to begin creating some special memories for the venue.

"We're still in that bedding-in period with Wembley, I think we need a big, big win and some big moments there before we can really feel at home.

"You can't just make history overnight, you need some experiences that can bond you and the fans to the stadium. We need to win there, and that's down to us."

While England have yet to register a victory in their two opening friendlies at the new stadium, Cole is sure that with points at stake against Israel and Russia that competitive edge will drive England to victory.

Cole told TheFA.com: "There's a different energy when it's a qualifier and there are points up for grabs.

"These fans are desperate to go to Austria and Switzerland, they've planned their holidays around it and they want it as much as we do.

"There is definitely something different in the air and hopefully it will bring the best out in the squad."

While Cole could have a perceived advantage in learning from Tal Ben-Haim and Ben Sahar on the training ground at Chelsea, he believes that the game has evolved so much that very few countries could ever be considered 'unknown quantities' any more.

"I think football is so worldwide and so well covered that you know pretty much everyone you're going to come up against," Cole said.

"Obviously it's horrible if you lose an international and you have to go back to your club and see the guys you lost to, so that's an added reason that we have to beat Israel."

Cole's message to the fans is clear - he wants to win something for England more than anything else, and next summer could be the perfect opportunity.

Cole revealed: "We're desperate to go next summer and we all want to win something for this country.

"If I finish my career having not won a tournament for my country then you'd have to say my England career would have been a failure - you're working on those margins. We don't want to let another chance slip so it's important we get there and give ourselves a fighting chance."
